Base Jumping Can Make a Very Memorable Gift

Are you thinking about helping a friend or family member take up a new sport as a gift? Base jumping can be exhilarating and exciting. It involves parachuting from a fixed object such as a building, bridge, or cliff. Base jumping was derived from skydiving and is performed at a lower altitude. The jumper descends at a lower air speed and remains very close to the object as they descend. This is more challenging than other parachuting sports because the jump occurs with less time and a very small area to land in.

Many base jumpers use a special parachute for the sport. Skydiving parachutes are not made for this type of jumping and may malfunction easier due to the lower altitude. Parachutes used for this sport often have only one large pilot chute to make it more light weight and easier to use. The longer you can delay opening the chute, the more body control you have.

Permission must be obtained to jump from most objects. Owners of buildings often do not give permission due to the legalities caused if an injury occurs. Because of this, many jumps are performed covertly. Base jumping itself is not illegal, but actions to do it covertly could be. Some states allow land to be used until stated otherwise.

Keep them out of trouble by giving them base jumping experience as a gift to try. This way they will be working with a knowledgeable person and will get experience it without injury or any other consequences. This one experience may make it a hobby for them and something they enjoy in their spare time.

Out of all the extreme adventure gifts available, this is one of the more extreme ones and will be a good challenge for them. Add some excitement and fun to their life with a one of a kind experience. Just think of the stories they will be able to tell you once they have done it.  You may even decide to try it yourself.
