Do the regular winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding lack the excitement you desire? As an outdoor enthusiast who loves winter sports, you have probably already mastered the more common ones and might be looking for a new activity. Snowmobiling may seem like a simple past time, but it can be a very difficult sport. A snowmobile is an outdoor vehicle that has been around for approximately fifty years and was originally created for work and travel purposes in remote areas. Over time snowmobiles have become more of a recreational vehicle used for leisure and extreme sports. Most of them run on one or two tracks and are maneuvered with two front skis. They require no trail and can travel on snow or ice.

Snowmobiling is a sport just like motocross or BMX biking.  More demanding activities performed include freestyle and racing. Freestyle involves jumps such as front and back flips, achieving maximum hang time, and the ever so popular superman. Normally a ramp or dip is used for freestyle allowing you to get plenty of air for the trick and proper landing. In racing a snowmobile is often referred to as a sled and some types are designed to run at speeds in excess of 200 mph. Hillcross and snocross racing have increased in popularity and are the most common forms of racing.

There are many options when it comes to extreme snowmobiling. Safety is very important because it is easy to be thrown off and get hurt. Driving training and proper safety measures such as dressing appropriately and using a tracking mechanism are a must. This sport can serve as one of the many extreme adventures you will have in life. You can take your time learning the proper techniques for freestyle tricks, become involved in racing, or do both. Instead of hitting the same ski slope you do every year, abandon the slopes and make your own path with extreme snowmobiling.
